Focus and scope

Revista CEA is an open access scientific journal under a continuous publication model with three issues per year. Its objective is to disseminate scientific knowledge at the international level by publishing original research articles online. It is specialized in organizational management, behavior theories applied to administrative sciences, finance, and technology management, but it also covers the fields of economics, marketing, human talent management, decision sciences, quality assurance, business history, and accounting. Revista CEA welcomes contributions written by national and international authors that offer solutions to regional and local problems.

Its evaluation process is carried out by external peers of an international nature and under the double blind modality.

Revista CEA is financed by the Instituto Tecnológico Metropolitano, a public entity. In addition, we do not charge any fees for sending, processing, editing or publication of articles. Call for manuscripts both in Spanish and English is permanent.

Section policies

Revista CEA journal receives original original contributions susceptible to publication that are framed in the following documentary typologies:

Research article: This type of document reports original research results in detail. It should clearly describe the problem being investigated and previous works recently published in the scientific literature. It should also describe, rigorously and completely, the proposed methods and the experimental results. The latter should be a contribution to one of the fields within the scope of the journal. It should also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of said results in contrast to the state of the art. Finally, the conclusions should be drawn from the content of the manuscript and address the research objectives.

Review article: Document resulting from a research where the results of published research or not, on a field in science or technology, are analyzed, systematized and integrated, in order to account for progress and development trends. It is characterized by presenting a careful bibliographic review of at least 50 references.

Reflection article: Document that presents research results from an analytical, interpretative or critical perspective of the author, on a specific topic, using original scientific sources.

Peer Review

The journal's evaluation policy is scientific double blind arbitration, in which the identity of the authors and evaluators is unknown to both parties. The article will be sent minimally to two external academic pairs, chosen based on the following criteria:

  • Academic training of master's or doctorate in the subject area.
  • Scientific publications in the area of interest in the last 5 years
  • Have an H index of 5 or higher
Have a different institutional affiliation to that of the publishing institution
  • Have a preferably international institutional affiliation
  • Have an institutional affiliation different from that of the authors of the manuscript
  • Declare no conflict of interest with the publishing institution, the journal or any of its members (editors, authors, members of the editorial and scientific committee)

The communication with the evaluating peers will be done through the OJS, where they will issue a concept about the academic quality of the content of the manuscript, rigor in the theoretical and methodological treatment and about the novelty or advancement of the author's contribution to the field of knowledge. The evaluators have a maximum of 30 business days to issue their concept in the evaluation format provided by Revista CEA, as well as to declare no conflicts of interest and to know the specific rules of ethics in research, confidentiality and plagiarism.

Possible results: According to the critical assessment of the academic quality and scientific rigor of the content, the evaluation process must contain one of the following results:

  • The article may be published subject to minor modifications.
  • The article can be published subject to major modifications.
  • The article should not be published for the reasons indicated in this review.

Cases of controversy: In cases of controversy, either because the concepts of the peers are opposed to each other, or because the author does not agree with the opinion, an additional evaluator will be appointed. If the controversy persists, it will be the editor-in-chief, with the possible help of the Editorial and Scientific Committee, who issues a qualified concept and makes the final publication decision, after carefully analyzing the peer assessments assigned to the manuscript.

Confidentiality: The Instituto Tecnológico Metropolitano, in its relations with third parties, will observe the principles of good faith and respect for intellectual property. Due to the above and to guarantee the impartiality of the academic evaluation of this article, the editing of the Revista CEA, reserves the name of the author of the work. The name of the evaluators is also confidential and at no time will the authors be announced. The confidentiality of this document implies that none of its parts can be used for a purpose other than the one established, and you cannot share them with anyone without the permission of the editor.

Frequency of publication

The journal is published three times a year.

DORA Adhesion

Aware of the need to improve ways of evaluating the quality and impact of scientific results, the journal adheres to the San Francisco Declaration on Research Evaluation (DORA).

Open access policy

Revista CEA can be accessed free of charge for reading and download your articles on its website. The reproduction of the contents of the journal in full or in part is authorized for academic purposes and for internal use by institutions as long as the source is cited (i.e., the authors and Revista CEA). The ideas and opinions expressed in the published articles are the sole responsibility of their authors.

Ethical publishing

The Revista CEA, as a journal that seeks to promote excellent scientific dissemination, is committed to promote the enforcement of quality and ethical standards during all the stages of the publication process. For that purpose, the journal declares it observes the ethical regulations and procedures to settle controversies established by the Committee on Publication Ethics COPE.

Below are different cases and their respective procedures to resolve controversies established by the Publications Ethics Committee - COPE.

Manuscripts involving the participation of individuals.

It is essential that the authors preserve the welfare and rights of the individuals or groups that participated in the study to be published. The Journal, as guarantor of the above, requires that the authors provide information about the implementation of an informed consent in which the use, treatment and purposes of the data collected are clearly indicated. In addition, any research process involving the participation of individuals requires the validation and approval of an Ethics Committee, which ensures the application of all the ethical principles promulgated, such as those contained in the Declaration of Helsinki (see Declaration).

The CEA Journal, in the initial editorial review and prior to submission to peers, will require the authors to provide evidence that the ethical principles involving the participation of individuals were guaranteed, as well as the anonymity of the participants and their informed consent. If any exception to the fulfillment of any of the principles is made, it must be endorsed by an Ethics Committee and the Editorial Committee may communicate directly with such Committee or, failing that, reject the manuscript if it concludes that the research did not follow an appropriate ethical framework. Any clarification or doubt in this regard should be available if the Editorial Committee so determines.

The following are the duties of each participant in the publication process of the journal.

Duties of editors and professional team of the journal

  • Editorial decision: The Editor-in-Chief ensures (1) that the editorial processes conducted by the journal are serious and high-quality and (2) that it only publishes articles that have been peer-reviewed and present a significant contribution to the fields within the scope of the journal.
  • Unbiased process: The editor evaluates the manuscripts in an unbiased manner, without any type of discrimination whatsoever, respecting the intellectual independence of the authors, and not favoring any author due to their institutional affiliation or academic career.
  • Confidentiality and nondisclosure agreement: The editor and the professional team of the journal shall not disclose information of authors or reviewers. Additionally, they shall maintain the confidentiality of the content of the manuscript until it has been accepted and published.
  • Conflict of interest: If the journal receives a manuscript in which at least one of the authors has a direct personal or professional relationship with the editor of the journal or is closely related to one of their studies or projects, it is considered a conflict of interest. Therefore, the editor will abstain from participating in the review process of the submitted manuscript and will forward it to the Editorial Board for them to carry out the editorial process.
  • Reviewer selection: The editor will select the peer-reviewers in an objective way, ensuring their competence in the specific field of the manuscript and a critical and expert evaluation of the work with the least possible bias.
  • Respect for decision times: The editors and the professional team of the journal are responsible for respecting review times in the different editorial stages of the manuscript and the publication of accepted articles. They will work for the timely dissemination of the results in each issue.
  • Errors in published articles: When editors find or are informed about an important error that significantly affects the results, conclusions, authorship, or institutional affiliation of a published article, they should make sure that it is timely corrected and informed to the scientific community so that potential readers are aware of the corrections that were made.
  • Procedure in case of ethical issues: The editor of the Journal will take all claims and suspicions of inappropriate behavior seriously and will conduct reasonable procedures to investigate each case, regardless of the moment at which they are identified or reported, even when the article has already been published. In any case, the authors will have the opportunity to respond to the claim.
  • Commitments Regarding the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools: Editors and the editorial team may use specialized software to review texts generated by artificial intelligence technologies and assess their level of originality. However, it is important to highlight that manuscripts will be considered confidential documents and, therefore, will not be uploaded to these artificial intelligence tools, in order to safeguard the confidentiality and intellectual property rights of the authors. Although the editorial team may use these tools to address specific aspects in the editing process, it is essential to emphasize that the evaluation and decision-making will remain the exclusive responsibility of the editor and the editorial team. These professionals will seek to ensure the quality and integrity of the contents.

Duties of authors

  • Originality: The authors shall ensure that the manuscript they submit is original and unpublished, it has not been partially or totally published in any format, and it was not simultaneously submitted to other publications.
  • Data veracity: The authors should confirm the veracity of the data or results obtained during their studies. In other words, they should make sure that the data were not altered or manipulated because such behavior is considered an ethically incorrect and fraudulent practice.
  • Sources of information: The authors should adequately cite the origin of the ideas or literal sentences taken from other previously published works, as indicated in the APA citation style implemented in the journal. They should also make sure that the references are the original sources the information in the manuscript is based on.
  • Authorship: The authors ensure that they have respected the authorship of the individuals that made a significant contribution to the experimental design, data collection, planning, implementation, and interpretation of the results of the study and the drafting of the manuscript. Furthermore, the order or hierarchy of the authors corresponds to their level of responsibility and participation in the work.
  • Funding source and institutional affiliation: The authors should inform the name of the institution they worked for during the study (affiliation). Additionally, they should indicate if the submitted paper is the result of studies carried out with public or private funding. In that case, they should provide the name of such funding source.
  • Conflict of interest: All the authors shall explicitly declare any possible conflict of financial, professional, or personal interests that may inappropriately influence their results or interpretations.
  • Errors in published articles: When authors identify a significant error in the editorial process or the publication of the manuscript, they should immediately communicate it to the editor of the journal so that the publication can be changed, withdrawn, or retracted.
  • Commitments Regarding the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools: Authors may use artificial intelligence tools during the writing process of their texts, with the purpose of improving readability and the appropriate use of language. However, it is essential that they use these technologies with supervision and control, as they can generate results with errors, incomplete ideas, or biased vocabulary. Ultimately, authors are responsible for the content of their work. If artificial intelligence is used in the creation of the manuscript, authors must explicitly declare it. This declaration promotes transparency in the process and contributes to building trust among readers, reviewers, editors, and other collaborators in the editorial process.

Duties of reviewers

  • Contribution to the editorial decision: Reviewers commit to conduct a critical, objective, constructive, and honest review, properly supporting their recommendation and respecting the intellectual autonomy of the author of the manuscript. If the reviewers deem their expertise not sufficient to conduct the review, they should immediately inform the editor and abandon the process.
  • If the reviewers identify or have a reasonable suspicion of inappropriate behavior (e.g., redundant publication, plagiarism, double submission, data manipulation, conflict of interest, or incorrect authorship), they should immediately warn the editor to take action in that regard.
  • Confidentiality and nondisclosure agreement: The reviewers acknowledge that all the information contained in the manuscript, including text, figures, tables, multimedia material, and appendices is confidential, the property of the authors, and protected by copyright law. They commit to use the information only for the academic review and recommendation process.
  • Respect for review times: Reviewers should submit their review on time. If they cannot meet the deadline for any reason, they should inform the editor of their possible delay and propose a new due date.
  • Acknowledgement of sources of information: The reviewers should ensure that the references in the manuscript are relevant and recent works published on the topic of the manuscript. In case they fail to meet said criteria, they should suggest to delete references and include others that are not cited in the manuscript.
  • Anonymity: In order to guarantee the impartiality of the evaluation of the manuscript, the journal editor does not disclose the identity of the authors of the manuscript. Likewise, the names of the reviewers are confidential and will never be disclosed to the authors. If the identity of the authors has been compromised for any reason, the reviewer should immediately notify the editor.
  • Conflict of interest: The reviewers should inform the editor if they consider they have any kind of financial, professional, or personal conflict of interest with any of the authors of the manuscript. If the reviewers have a conflict of interest, they should reject the review and inform the journal editor about the reason why they cannot conduct such review.
  • Commitments Regarding the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools: Guest reviewers invited to review manuscripts will not upload the manuscripts submitted or parts thereof to artificial intelligence tools, in order to protect sensitive information from authors and their findings, safeguarding the confidentiality and intellectual property rights of the authors. The review and decision-making process in this important stage of the editorial processing will be carried out by the reviewers within their capacities and knowledge.

 Duties of readers

Readers should immediately inform the editor if they identify an article published in any issue of the journal that bears similarity to other works previously published or any other inappropriate behavior so that action can be taken in that regard.

Readers commit to respect the copyright of the articles published in the journal, avoiding the use of substantial segments of the works in their publications or adequately citing them.

Verification of originality

Manuscripts submitted to the journal will undergo an analysis of originality verification through a software for the identification of coincidences. This analysis involves the review of possible coincidences with other published papers and their respective citation. In addition, it will include a review of the use of artificial intelligence tools, automatic learning or similar algorithmic tools for the generation of text and/or generation of images, which will be submitted to the editorial team for consideration. In case of identifying indications about infractions to these codes of ethics, the procedure established in the COPE Flow diagrams will be followed to resolve cases of suspected bad practices (see here).

Errata and retractions

The content of articles published in the Journal may be corrected if, during the review or editing stages or even after publication, the author or Editor finds or is informed of undetected errors.

Depending on the type, seriousness, and/or consequences of the error, the following options can be considered:

Errata refers to the correction of one or more errors in spite of which the article can remain published.

retraction is the acknowledgement of errors that are sufficiently serious to invalidate the results or conclusions in the article; therefore, the entire article must be removed. Any article that has been demonstrated to breach in any way the publication ethics statement of the Journal will be withdrawn was well.

Retraction and republication will be possible if the Editorial Board considers it was an honest error (e.g., wrong classification or calculation error) that led to an important change in the direction or meaning of the results, interpretations, or conclusions. In that case, a new review will be conducted, and the readers will be informed of the scope of the changes that were made.

All the errata and retraction requests should be sent to revistacea@itm.edu.co, describing the case and attaching the supporting information.

All the errata will be thoroughly analyzed by the Editor and the Editorial Team. In complex cases, the Editor may request expert advice to make decisions and provide ethical solutions for each situation.

In all cases, the Journal will ensure errors are promptly corrected. The Journal will also communicate and detail the changes and the dates when they were made so that readers are aware of the corresponding modifications.

Before requesting a correction or reporting an error, the following aspects should be taken into account:

Readers

Readers can report, in a single document, the errors they found in a published article.

If a reader reports a substantial error in the content of a publication, the Editor will analyze the case to verify the situation. If the error is confirmed, the authors will be contacted so that they make the necessary changes and corrections and write a reply to the reader.

If the reader is not satisfied with the answer, direct communication between the reader and the authors will be facilitated.

In any case, the Journal will be informed of such communications.

Authors

No correction will be accepted if it refers to the order of the names of the authors in a published article or adding or removing authors because that aspect must be agreed upon before the submission of the manuscript.

If an author identifies a substantial error that requires the retraction of a published article, the case should be supported in detail. In case of corrigenda or errata, the specific passage(s) of the text where the error(s) can be found should be specified, and the revised version(s) should be provided. The Editorial Board may consider a peer review of the corrections.

The corresponding author is responsible for clarifying the errors to the co-authors and coordinating the changes required by the Journal.

Notice of errata

All the replies to the errata will be individually forwarded to the corresponding complainant. Additionally, the changes will be published in a note in the next issue of the Journal and its website. When the corrected version is published, the Journal will specify the error and the changes.

The notices of retraction should clearly state the title of the article that has been partially modified or entirely withdrawn by the author, as well as the reasons behind the retraction.

Claims

In case of any disagreement, the authors or peer reviewers can contact revistacea@itm.edu.co, describing their claim and presenting supporting arguments.

The complaint should be clear, concrete, and include sufficient data to demonstrate a possible breach of the publication ethics statement of the Journal. If possible, complementary documents should be attached as proof or evidence of the situation.

The Journal will only receive complaints via email. The Technical Editor will timely analyze, address, and reply to the complaint in a maximum period of three (3) business days. Nevertheless, depending on the complexity of the complaint, the complainant may be informed of additional time required for the investigation.

The complainant should provide contact information (full name, email address, and phone number) to forward communications and reply to the complaint or claim. In case of anonymous reports, the answer will be sent to the email address from which the request was sent.

Depending on the nature and complexity of the complaint, the case will be studied by the Editorial Team, the Editorial Board, or expert staff, and the decisions will be made observing the guidelines or recommendations of the COPE. If necessary, the Journal may request further information and complementary supporting documents to clarify the case. If the accusation is found to be substantial and accurate, the investigation will be escalated to the legal system.

The complaints beyond the jurisdiction of the Journal (e.g., personal complaints against authors, editors, peer reviewers, or the Editorial Team) will be replied indicating the reasons why the complaint falls outside the competence of the Journal.

If a claim is filed due to possible content similarities or coincidences in an article published by the journal, it will be investigated if the claim is not related to common phrases, such as “As proven in” and “Previous studies have shown that,” etc. If the claim is proven not to be trivial or inaccurate, the investigation will escalate to legal actions.

The Journal will not conduct any investigation if a complaint is offensive, threatening, or defamatory. On the contrary, such complaints will be forwarded to the Legal Department of Instituto Tecnológico Metropolitano and the corresponding authorities.

The Journal may resort to laws, codes, and regulations if a complainant insists on a baseless, false, or malicious complaint. In that case, if the institutional affiliation of the complainant is known, the institution may be notified of the complainant’s behavior.
