From the Fourth Urban Revolution to the Fourth Industrial Revolution: Environmental Air Quality Challenges for Medellín and the Valle de Aburrá
Abstract
After the creation of a center to enable its development in 2019, the idea of a fourth industrial revolution has become quite common in Medellín and the Valle de Aburrá. However, beyond the city marketing strategy upon which the World Economic Forum (WEF) based its decision to choose the capital to establish the center, some questions arise. For instance, if we are dealing with the fourth, do we know something about the first, second or third revolutions? Do we know what is an industrial revolution? And most importantly, what are the challenges for Medellín in the unfolding of this revolution? We will now try to briefly answer these questions, focusing on the close historical and geographical relationship between the industrial and urban revolutions.
