Errata and retractions

The content of articles published in the Journal may be corrected if, during the review or editing stages or even after publication, the author or Editor finds or is informed of undetected errors.

Depending on the type, seriousness, and/or consequences of the error, the following options can be considered:

Errata refers to the correction of one or more errors in spite of which the article can remain published.

A retraction is the acknowledgement of errors that are sufficiently serious to invalidate the results or conclusions in the article; therefore, the entire article must be removed. Any article that has been demonstrated to breach in any way the publication ethics statement of the Journal will be withdrawn was well.

Retraction and republication will be possible if the Editorial Board considers it was an honest error (e.g., wrong classification or calculation error) that led to an important change in the direction or meaning of the results, interpretations, or conclusions. In that case, a new review will be conducted, and the readers will be informed of the scope of the changes that were made.

All the errata and retraction requests should be sent to trilogia@itm.edu.co, describing the case and attaching the supporting information.

All the errata will be thoroughly analyzed by the Editor and the Editorial Team. In complex cases, the Editor may request expert advice to make decisions and provide ethical solutions for each situation.

In all cases, the Journal will ensure errors are promptly corrected. The Journal will also communicate and detail the changes and the dates when they were made so that readers are aware of the corresponding modifications.

Before requesting a correction or reporting an error, the following aspects should be taken into account:

Readers

Readers can report, in a single document, the errors they found in a published article.

If a reader reports a substantial error in the content of a publication, the Editor will analyze the case to verify the situation. If the error is confirmed, the authors will be contacted so that they make the necessary changes and corrections and write a reply to the reader.

If the reader is not satisfied with the answer, direct communication between the reader and the authors will be facilitated.

In any case, the Journal will be informed of such communications.

Authors

No correction will be accepted if it refers to the order of the names of the authors in a published article or adding or removing authors because that aspect must be agreed upon before the submission of the manuscript.

If an author identifies a substantial error that requires the retraction of a published article, the case should be supported in detail. In case of corrigenda or errata, the specific passage(s) of the text where the error(s) can be found should be specified, and the revised version(s) should be provided. The Editorial Board may consider a peer review of the corrections.

The corresponding author is responsible for clarifying the errors to the co-authors and coordinating the changes required by the Journal.

Notice of errata

All the replies to the errata will be individually forwarded to the corresponding complainant. Additionally, the changes will be published in a note in the next issue of the Journal and its website. When the corrected version is published, the Journal will specify the error and the changes.

The notices of retraction should clearly state the title of the article that has been partially modified or entirely withdrawn by the author, as well as the reasons behind the retraction.

Los avisos de retractación indicarán, claramente, cuál es el artículo que está siendo modificado parcialmente o que será retirado en su totalidad por el autor, y las causas de la retractación.

Claims

In case of any disagreement, the authors or peer reviewers can contact trilogia@itm.edu.co, describing their claim and presenting supporting arguments.

The complaint should be clear, concrete, and include sufficient data to demonstrate a possible breach of the publication ethics statement of the Journal. If possible, complementary documents should be attached as proof or evidence of the situation.

The Journal will only receive complaints via email. The Technical Editor will timely analyze, address, and reply to the complaint in a maximum period of three (3) business days. Nevertheless, depending on the complexity of the complaint, the complainant may be informed of additional time required for the investigation.

The complainant should provide contact information (full name, email address, and phone number) to forward communications and reply to the complaint or claim. In case of anonymous reports, the answer will be sent to the email address from which the request was sent.

Depending on the nature and complexity of the complaint, the case will be studied by the Editorial Team, the Editorial Board, or expert staff, and the decisions will be made observing the guidelines or recommendations of the COPE. If necessary, the Journal may request further information and complementary supporting documents to clarify the case. If the accusation is found to be substantial and accurate, the investigation will be escalated to the legal system.

The complaints beyond the jurisdiction of the Journal (e.g., personal complaints against authors, editors, peer reviewers, or the Editorial Team) will be replied indicating the reasons why the complaint falls outside the competence of the Journal.

The Journal will not conduct any investigation if a complaint is offensive, threatening, or defamatory. On the contrary, such complaints will be forwarded to the Legal Department of Instituto Tecnológico Metropolitano and the corresponding authorities.

The Journal may resort to laws, codes, and regulations if a complainant insists on a baseless, false, or malicious complaint. In that case, if the institutional affiliation of the complainant is known, the institution may be notified of the complainant’s behavior.
