Abstract

In this work we study the electromagnetic modes in one-dimensional and two-dimensional photonic crystals through finite difference frequency domain method. The band diagrams and the intensity profiles are calculated for one-dimensional photonic crystal with a defect, and for two-dimensional photonic crystals in hexagonal and square lattices. Our calculations are compared with simulations made with MPB software based on plane wave expansion method.
