Research evaluation and university rankings, beyond citations and impact factor
Abstract
Research evaluation is currently one of the most relevant and controversial topics in science and academia, especially in the university environment. This evaluation is commonly used to classify institutions, groups, academic products such as scientific journals, and research teaching staff. Research quality and impact indicators decisively influence advancement in academic careers, selection of scholarship and incentive beneficiaries, completion of high-level programs (such as master's degrees and doctorates), allocation of resources in institutions and research centers, and in the definition of public policies at the institutional and governmental level [1], [2].
