Entrepreneurial Intention and Higher Education: A Bibliometric Approach

Keywords: bibliometric analysis, entrepreneurial intention, higher education, business education

Abstract

This article presents a bibliometric analysis of the body of research into entrepreneurial intention related to higher education. The methodology implemented here used a data set taken from the main collection of Web of Science. A search equation was designed with Boolean operators and restricted to publications between January 1998 and December 2022. As a result, 1,933 documents in total were found and analyzed. This paper presents an analysis of co-citations, co-occurrences, citations, and co-authorship of articles, authors, journals, countries, and keywords using VOSviewer software. The findings show that this field started to grow in 2015; the most common topics in this area are self-efficacy, cross-culturalism, entrepreneurship education, and gender; and the most prominent authors and universities are in Spain. Three research axes were identified: personal attitudes (molding approach), action capacity (entrepreneurial approach), and environment (university approach). The challenges of entrepreneurship education in higher education are discussed as well. This study offers a holistic perspective of what is happening in this research field, which can be used to find interesting topics to be further investigated.
